This activity focused on the presentation of field observation reports and the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) documents prepared by students based on the observations conducted during their industrial practice at the shipyard. The presentations covered welding processes, work standards and procedures, material selection, as well as the implementation of welding methods used in ship construction projects.
The activity was attended by students of the Applied Bachelor Program in Shipbuilding Construction Engineering Technology (TRKP), Class of 2025, Universitas Diponegoro, under the supervision of Mr. Suharto and Mr. Hariyono. Representatives from Janata Marina Indah 1 (JMI 1) Shipyard also participated in the session, providing feedback, evaluations, and insights regarding the application of welding procedures and industrial standards within the shipbuilding industry.
The presentations were conducted after the students had completed a series of activities, including field observations, data collection, analysis of findings, and the preparation of technical reports and WPS documents. The activity took place at Janata Marina Indah 1 (JMI 1) Shipyard in Semarang, one of the industrial partners that serves as a practical learning facility for students in the field of shipbuilding construction.
This industrial visit aimed to enhance students’ understanding and competencies in shipbuilding processes, particularly in welding practices, quality control, and the implementation of industrial work standards. Furthermore, the activity provided an opportunity for students to integrate the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom with real-world practices applied in the industry.
During the presentation session, each student group presented the results of their observations, field findings, and WPS documents developed based on actual conditions at the shipyard. The presentations were followed by discussion and evaluation sessions involving both academic supervisors and industry representatives, providing constructive feedback and broadening students’ understanding of the competencies required in the maritime sector.
Through this activity, students gained valuable hands-on experience in preparing technical reports, developing welding procedure documents, and strengthening their professional communication and presentation skills. It is expected that this industrial visit to Janata Marina Indah 1 (JMI 1) Shipyard will serve as valuable preparation for TRKP Class of 2025 students as they face the challenges and opportunities of the rapidly evolving maritime industry.
