Six students from the Shipbuilding Construction Engineering Technology Program (TRKP), Vocational School of Universitas Diponegoro (SV Undip), have successfully completed an industrial internship program at PaxOcean Batam, Indonesia. The students—Rizky Aditya Kurniawan, Giri Lazuardy Razak, Amtsal Muzakky, Muhammad Habiburrohman, Zidan Ferdiansyah Setiawan, and Dimas Saputra—participated in the program under the coordination of Dr. Zulfaidah Ariany, S.T., M.T., as the Industrial Internship Program Coordinator.
The two-month internship placed the students in the Mechanical and Engineering Departments, where they gained hands-on experience in ship design processes, maintenance, and technical work related to ship construction and machinery systems. PaxOcean is recognized as one of Indonesia’s leading shipyards, operating under international standards and handling global-scale shipbuilding and repair projects. The company has shipyards in Singapore, Indonesia, and China, as well as Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) facilities in Saudi Arabia.
This internship program is part of the study program’s ongoing efforts to prepare graduates with strong practical competencies and industry readiness, particularly in the maritime sector.
According to Dr. Zulfaidah Ariany, the internship aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world industrial practice, enhance both technical and soft skills, and foster professional attitudes aligned with the needs of the shipbuilding industry.
“During the internship, students were actively involved in various technical activities, including observing mechanical system maintenance processes, assisting engineering work, and understanding occupational safety procedures in the shipyard environment. This experience provides direct insight into industry work standards, interdepartmental coordination, and operational challenges in shipyards,” she explained.
Ainul Hayat Rahmawati from the Human Resource Department, Learning and Development division at PaxOcean, expressed positive feedback regarding the program. She noted that the students demonstrated discipline, enthusiasm for learning, and strong adaptability to the industrial work environment. The program is considered mutually beneficial, serving as practical learning for students while strengthening collaboration between industry and vocational education institutions.
Through this industrial internship program, students are expected to apply the knowledge they have acquired during their studies and enhance their readiness to enter the workforce upon graduation. The initiative also reflects a strong synergy between vocational higher education and industry in developing competent human resources in the shipbuilding sector.
